Pt. 2 Ups And Downs...
Months pass, as do the seasons. By now, the high you were on has faded. Honeymoon's over, now it's time for the nitty gritty. Arguments, lies, mistakes. When it's good, it's great. When it's bad, well, you know the rest. You both realize that love may not be all it's cracked up to be. You both must work damn hard. Forgive and forget. Live and let die.
Easier said than done, that's for sure.
Love is such a volatile thing. So inviting, and it turns on you in an instant. Sometimes you get sick of it. Sometimes you can't let it go. The great hypocrisy lies within your denial to push pride and egos aside to look at the bigger picture, only to do so when you're riding high. Ain't that some shit.
One thing women don’t understand is a man’s reasoning. You may have cheated, but you never betrayed your love for her. Was it spite? Selfishness? Maybe you just wanted something new, but too scared to let go of what you’ve already got. Nothing personal, your intention was never to leave, but just do what you do and come back home.
Or maybe you mistreated her. She took it, for love. You kept pushing, until one day she pushed back. Then you realized you can’t take the push and through your twisted sense of reality, discovered that you were wrong for pushing her to begin with. Instead of apologizing, you lash out like a fool. We’re only human, and humans make mistakes.
Maybe she tried to change you. Seeing you not for what you are, but what you could be. It’s quite possible. Change does not come from one person, but both parties, willing to compromise on a brighter future. Why us though? I know we’re not the only ones who can change for the better. So we make mistakes. The ladies aren’t without fault as well.
These mistakes could have been the last.
But you two worked too hard to let it go over bullshit. After all, you often take things for granted, and reminders, no matter how painful, are necessary to drive the point home. Just because she's always stayed by your side doesn't mean she always will. You hate her, right? No. You hate the fact that she can make you feel the way you do. Shitty. But you gotta take your lumps and keep it moving.
In the midst of it all, you know you did the right thing. Stuck with the woman that stuck by you. Regardless of the fights, saying shit you shouldn't have said, doing things you shouldn't have done. A woman's work is never done. Yeah, she mighta been a habitual line stepper to quote Charlie Murphy, but you know damn well it wasn't without reason. You CAN imagine living life without the b.s. arguments, but you CAN’T imagine living life without her. Catch 22.
Regardless of what goes down/went down/will go down, you give it 100%. That way, in the end there’s no regrets. You’re deeply in love, and the ups and downs just prove that you’re in it for the long haul. How could you not be? The one that puts that stupid grin on your face at the mention of her name. The one there for you when you’re down on your luck. The one that constantly fights with you. The one that forgives you. The one that drives you crazy. The one you will marry. The one you will make a new life for. The one.
Where we love is home,
Home that our feet may leave,
But not our hearts.
