(yeah...I'm lovin these Do The Right Thing pics)
So I was late to work Thursday morning.
See what had happened was...
I actually stayed up...well I was up and ended up watching "Now That's What I'm Talking About".
I found it to be very entertaining and informative, this coming from someone who's not the biggest fan of roundtable discussions. Paul Mooney held it down for the first thirty minutes with his usual style of hilarious wisecracks.
It's hard to say exactly what they discussed because they touched on a myriad of topics ranging from Blacks in film past & present, comedic influences.
One sharp point that they made was the idea that the current values exhibited by our generation are in complete disagreement with the Civil Right's movement, a backlash of sorts fostered by the lack of dramatic change caused by that movement.
And one of the more interesting points that was brought up by Harry Belafonte was the fact that current hip-hop has sold it's soul when the industry came shaking "a bag of thirty pieces of silver." Once the industry decided that "bitches, blunts, burners & beepers" sold better, they marketed it, promoted it and thus, we have the current state of hip-hop which has strayed from it's roots. He proceeded to drop jewels on who really controls the puppets and I might add he held back nothing lol.
He was on point.
Harry isn't like Bill Cosby.
Son has been in the trenches for decades now and recently blew Bush out the water.
Hence, I respected his opinion and semi-agree.
The question that stirred in me all day is "how do we reverse this situation?"
Either way, two more episodes are scheduled and I plan on tuning in to watch. Peep the schedule here.
I'm about ready to hop on the Lupe Fiasco bandwagon. Dude's flow is type ill and somewhat refreshing. What he lacks in vocal impression, he makes up for with lyrical ability and thoughtfulness. We put this up before but I barely listened for whatever reasons. I backtracked and gave him a more thoro listen and I must say I'm glad I did.
