Fuckin Cow...

The blaze began about 9 p.m. on Sunday, October 8, 1871. By midnight the fire had jumped the river's south branch and by 1:30 a.m., the business district was in flames. Shortly thereafter the fire raced northward across the main river.

The waterworks were evacuated although the tower was not badly damaged and still stands. During Monday the fire burned as far as Fullerton Avenue. Rainfall which started about midnight helped put out the last of the flames. 300 Chicagoans were dead, 90,000 homeless, and the property loss was $200 million.

Did Mrs. O'Leary's cow start the Great Chicago Fire?

There's evidence that suggests she did. The conflagration almost surely began in the vicinity of the crowded family barn, where, in addition to a horse, a calf, and a wagon, Kate O'Leary kept the five cows she milked twice a day for her local dairy business. The O'Learys had just laid up plenty of coal, wood shavings, and hay to see them and their livestock through the winter--and to feed any fire once it got going. Kate supposedly revealed to different people the morning after the blaze began that she was in the barn when one of her cows kicked over a lantern. A few curiosity-seekers claimed to find the broken pieces of such a lantern while snooping behind her cottage, whose survival was one of the great ironies of the disaster.

The O'Leary Legend

"...for seven months out the year/we need gloves."

I don't know who this cat is.

I "found" it.

All I know is he runs down Chi's history from past to present from the eye's of a Black man in the form of spoken word.

Operation Push, liquor stores, Harpo Studios,
The Magnificient Mile, pimps and hustlers, Stones, Kings & Disciples, Halsted St., open fire hydrants, The Taste, "the world's fastest rapper," 1984 Michael Jordan posters...

Tracing the growth and development of the Windy City, he reflects with detailed adoration the beauty and ugliness that simulatenously work together to make the city what it is.

In a circuitous way, if that fuckin cow wouldn't have started the fire, who's to say we wouldn't have the above piece or the one below...

The third installment in what has been a great series...

cookiehead: aiyo -P, them folk don't like it that we put up so much T.I. music. Whatchu think of that?
pauiie: who the fuck don't like it?
pauiie: they can suck a dick and get the fuck on with that shit..

After rappin with cats today and sharing my excitement about finding this joint, I'm starting to realize that I might be the only one who remembers this album.

This joint might qualify as straight OOP (Out Of Print) material that makes what we do all the more resourceful and worthwhile. When I saw it available, I had to grab it. "Humpin," "College Boyz In The House" and "Politics Of A Gangster"....I'm definitely showing my age because you have to absolutely be a Rap City kid to remember these cats and their track "Hollywood Paradox" with its interpolation of the Isley's "For The Love Of You". That song rode the Countdown for weeks...before these cats fell off the scene and prolly work @ a dry cleaners somewhere. Still a cool listen if nothing more than to take you back and allow you to look at an era when hip-hop was fairly simple - no gimmicks, not marketing schemes; just music heavy with funk samples and artists who rapped on what they knew.

Last but not least, a reup on one from last week.
